A Call To Repentance

†††† Throughout the ages, God has called His people from their wanderings away from Him.With mercy and grace, He has softly and tenderly pleaded for their return. At times with hardship and leanness of soul He has prodded them to return.[1]He wishes that none be lost, but rather that all be saved to an eternal relationship with Him.He sent not His son into the world to condemn us, but that the world, through Him, might be saved.[2]Yet the world rejected Him, reviled Him, spat upon and cursed Him, then crucified Him, their creator, their God.All this sounds like ancient history to some, mythology to others, apostasy to a great many.To those who have accepted His grace and professed His lordship, though weak and frail in their flesh, His gospel is their hope which, through faith, however small, is made substantive.[3]It is this body that He is calling, in these last days, to return to their first love,[4] as it appears, by a body of evidence, that another great awakening is not likely, and that the world has become the modern day equivalent of Sodom and Gomorrah.

†††† Taking Abrahamís example, we should plead with the Lord for our country.[5]Perhaps, contrary to all we see, there still exists a chance that our nation will return to the God of their fathers. This appears, day by day, to be less and less likely. Our religious and secular foundational cornerstones, the Bible and the Constitution, have been vilified and nullified.People flout their sin as if it were a badge of honor instead of a shame.Everyone does what is right in their own eyes.[6]We are a people and a nation that has lost its way, and we totter on a precipice, unafraid because blind to the abyss that looms below.God is calling His people, from this heart of darkness, to come out!If our country has sealed its rejection of the faith of their fathers, and if its institutions refuse to repent and turn back to God, then perhaps this is the age spoken of by John when he said, ďAnd I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.Ē[7] ††

†††† Perhaps we, like Sodom and Gomorrah, have an intermediary to plead our cause.Perhaps God has burdened the heart of one, or many, of His children to intercede, as Abraham, for this once great nation, under God.Frankly, I havenít witnessed one with such hope, our national evangelist, and his family, having stated that we are under judgment.[8]I pray for another great awakening and, although I fear nothing as I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God is in control, I regret not seeing any signs of its appearance.Perhaps it is time to concentrate on preparing the bride.
